Unique Entity ID #

Unique Entity ID

GSA is rolling out a new system called the Unique Entity ID #. The UEI is going to replace your DUNS number-the 9 digit code the government uses to verify your unique entity. Previously, vendors had to register with Dun and Bradstreet, get their DUNS number assignment, and THEN they could register inside the System for Award Management, or SAM.gov. As of April 4, 2022 DUNs numbers will no longer be used, and instead will be replaced with the UEI.

If you already have a SAM account, you will see the UEI now used in lieu of the DUNS number.

If you are a subcontractor and utilize the DUNS number system for sub award reporting, you can log into SAM.gov and request a UEI that you will use in its place for reporting starting in April 2022.

Prior to April 2022, you will still need to get a DUNS # assignment from Dun and Bradstreet prior to making a SAM account. Through the process of making your SAM account, you will be assigned a UEI # in SAM.

After April 2022, you will not need to register with Dun and Bradstreet prior to making a SAM account.  If you need assistance with your SAM.gov account or have other technical issues, go to the Federal Service Desk at FSD.gov to search for frequently asked questions.
